Quality affordable seeds are the backbone of every successful microgreen operation. I always say, “Good seeds can overcome bad environmental conditions, but good environmental conditions cannot compensate for bad seeds.” If you’re growing with low quality seeds, it won’t matter if you have the perfect watering regimen, air flow, temperature, and humidity levels. Buying your seeds from reputable sources is critical. Even then, you want to create a list of multiple suppliers in case one is out of stock or their supply of a certain variety is of poor quality.
We previously wrote a blog on seed suppliers in North America, which was informed by four years of personal experience growing my company, Piedmont Microgreens (Where to Buy Microgreen Seeds in North America). This article focuses on seed suppliers from Europe. I have NOT ordered seeds from any company on this list. The list of seed suppliers below is from various sources and forums. It's compiled from suggestions from growers worldwide. Each column is self-explanatory, except “Perceived Quality." Perceived Quality is my 1-5 ranking of how likely I'd be to order from each company based on their website. Is the website professional and well-built? Is there an explicit microgreen section? Do they offer a wide range of products? 5 is the best; 1 is the worst. These rankings are relative to the other seed suppliers in that country, if there’s more than one. For example, I’d be more likely to buy from Premier Seeds Direct in the UK than Natures Root in the UK, solely based on the website.
