What it Means to “Use Surpluses” (One-Time Order)
Written by Garrett Corwin
Last updated 1 day ago1. For this example, we have a one-time order with a due date of June 27th. It's June 23rd today

2. The order is for five trays of arugula, which takes 13 days to grow. Clearly, we don't have enough time to grow the arugula if we started today

3. However, we happen to have surplus arugula growing in the farm. Click the "Use Surpluses" button. This lets Microgreen Manager know we want to use any surplus for this order

4. When the button is selected, the "Action" is to use all 0.73 of the arugula trays available for this order. However, this amount is not enough for the five trays we need. When you select the "Create Overdue Plantings" button, Microgreen Manager will create 4.27 trays of arugula for the missing amount. Click "Submit"

5. Click "Order 30277" to inspect the order

6. Under the "Plantings" section, we see 0.73 trays of arugula are "In Progress." The other 4,27 trays are "Planned" because we haven't completed any tasks for it yet. Let's see what happened on the dashboard

7. Click "Dashboard"

8. Click "2 Overdue Tasks"

9. Here are the two tasks for the 4.27 trays of arugula. We told the software to create them when we chose "Create Overdue Plantings"

10. Let's try another example. It has the same parameters. June 27th is the order date and today's date is June 23rd

11. We'll grow arugula, a 13-day crop. It's too late to start the arugula if we want it to be ready by June 27th. The software shows we have three trays of surplus arugula on the farm. We need four for the order. Clicking the "Use Surpluses" field and the "Action" is to "Pull 3.00 Trays From Surplus"

12. If we deselect the box, the software won't do anything because it's too late. The "Action" now reads "Nothing. Too Late To Start"

13. Let's see what happens if we select to use surpluses, but not create overdue orders. Click "Submit"

14. Click "Order 30278" to inspect the order

15. There's a "Deficits" section. It says three trays are assigned to a four-tray order, but we still need one more tray
